Changing Normality(Project 1 Final Statement)

The focus of project one was in creating a projection mapped world that revolved around the typical depictions of the normal(pre-coronavirus) world and the “new normal.” I decided to focus on showing crowds, socialization, restaurants, and people consistently moving in close proximity to each other.

Projection mapping this performance in a way that would tell an accurate narrative of each type of world involved using color theory, and focusing on colors that would project a sense of happiness( bright yellows and pinks), while conveying a sense of fear or disorientation( muddied reds, greens, blues, and flickering colors) for the "new normal."

My choice of projection mapping on the dresser reflects the one thing that truly hasn’t changed in my day, I typically pick my pajamas out and lay my clothes for the next day on this dresser. While my relationship with almost every object has changed in my life( little time spent in the car, more time spent on the couch), my dresser holds just as many memories from pre-coronavirus days, as it does in the realm of the “new normal.”

When it came to choosing a song or sound effects for the project, I felt lost, as nothing seemed to convey a sense of despair and hope. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” projects a sense of hope within isolation and fear through its’ message of dreaming of a place filled with happiness.
